The Purpose

      This site is a public database of opinions about the environmental friendliness of various products.
      Registered users may submit reports about products and their environmental impact. Any user may
      view the reports, and vote on whether they agree with the report or not. Everyone is encouraged to
      share any information they have about the effects of a particular product, so that we all can make
      positive environmental choices!

      The Study

      This site is currently an IRB approved research study being conducted by Professor Bill Tomlinson and
      his research group from the University of California, Irvine. The study is testing the usability of the
      GreenScanner website, the kinds of usage behaviors the site promotes, and the feasibility of the
      GreenScanner product database.

      Participation is entirely voluntary and you may choose to skip a part of the website study or opt
      out of the study at any time without penalty. There are no direct benefits from participation in the
      study. However, proper testing and development of this website will allow it to grow and have a
      possibly significant impact on people's purchasing decisions; hopefully creating more environmentally-
      conscious consumers.
